Biography

Ezekiel Thomas Philips was the first born son of Elijah Philips and Mary Malone. He was born on 20 Feb 1784 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Elijah, his Father, had moved to Rowan, North Carolina by the 1783.[1] When Ezekiel was 24 yo he married Elizabeth Thompson Brown, daughter of John Brown and Tamer Thompson , 22 Dec 1808 in Surry, North Carolina.[2]Their first child was born the following year. Ezekiel and Elizabeth had a total of Twelve children. Seven girls and 5 boys. Between 1810 and 1820 Ezekiel moved his family to Franklin, Tennessee. He had a fairly large plantation in Franklin Tennessee as evidenced by the number of Slaves on the 1820 census. Three were engaged in agriculture.[3] He died 3 Sep 1828 in Franklin County, Tennessee. His will was date 28 Aug 1828 and probated 25 Nov 1828. He names his wife, Elizabeth and James, his son as Executors.[4]
