1865 New York State Census: Grant Pierce, 10 months, lived in District 1, Colesville, Broome County, New York, with parents Amelia, 38, and siblings Frances (Aldrich), 15; Josephine, 8; and Fred, 6. Also present was Catherine Randall, 76, reported relation to Silas was mother, but she was actually Amelia's mother. Silas was born in Greene County, Catherine was born in Columbia County, Amelia & all the children were born in Broome County. Silas states he is the parent of 1 child, has been married twice. Amelia states she is the parent of 4 children, has been married once. (Silas, at that time, was on his second marriage, had 4 children, 3 still living. Amelia had 4 children, 4 still living. If her marriage to Silas was her first marriage, then Aldrich was her maiden name, and Frances had been born out of wedlock) Catherine states she is the mother of 13 children, was married twice, was widowed. Silas' occupation was farmer mechanic, the only voter in household, and owned his land.[1]
He passed away in 1866.
