Effie was born in 1870. She was one of eleven children born to Henry Pigott and Ellen Giles.

Henry and Ellen Pigott and their daughter Effie arrived in N.S.W on 16 Jan 1890 aboard the ship RMS 'Ballarat'.

Effie married John Reginald Wood at St Paul's, Castle Hill, 28 Jan 1892 and they had ten children
