Biography

This profile is part of the Power Name Study.

Arthur Anders Powers was born in 1810 in North Carolina. He was the son of Arthur Powers and Unknown Baggett. He passed away in 1877. [1] He was buried on 4 Feb 1885 (?) in the Mapes Cemetery, The Old Homestead, in Montgomery County, Tennessee.

According to the 1850 census,[2] he lived with his wife Emily and five children in Montgomery County, Tennessee. Arthur is listed as a mechanic. One curiosity is that the children are listed in age order, as is typical, except for the last child who is five, listed after a two-year-old.

Research Notes

  • In studying this family, I have come to know that, like many families, use of certain names runs through several branches, and many of the cousins were born about the same time, in about the same place. For this reason, I draw your attention to [[powers-1678|Arthur Nathaniel Powers], living in Houston, Tennessee - at least part of the time. It's possible that they each had a daughter named Mary Ann, but I'm tending to believe that there is one, and she belongs to Arthur Nathaniel, not Arthur Anders.
    • Additionally, there may be two Mastin C. Powers -- one born in 1830 and the other in 1838? Or one?
  • The 1877 date of death may belong to Arthur Nathaniel. This point needs to be clarified with support. Note the 1885 burial date listed above, paired with the 1877 date of death.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Arthur by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Arthur:
