One of the problems which has caused so much confusion is that Christoffel Jurianse Probasco and Eytje Stryker had many children and there was a considerable age span between them. In 1698 a census shows him with 6 children, and in previous records it shows he lost at least 5 children. His oldest living son, John (Jan) had his first child abt 1703 with the birth of Christoffel (Stoffel) who in 1725 married Sara Ammerman. Christoffel and Eytje Stryker supposedly had their last child, Christoffel, between 1697 and 1702. Actually there is very little info on this Christoffel. The only mention of him is in Teunis Bergen¹s ³Register of the Early Settlers of Kings County, Long Island New York² listing him as the 1st husband of Catelina Schenck, daughter of Martin Roelofse Schenck.
Christoffel Probasco (b. bet 1697-1702) was the son of Christoffel Probasco and Eytje Stryker and married Catalynte/Cataline Martense Schenck (b. 1705) who was the daughter of Martin Roelofse Schenck and Jannetje Lucasse Voorhees. They married about 1725. Though no official record has been found to date that shows their marriage or that they had children, Alice Kennedy in Probasco Genealogy lists a daughter, Lammaty, being born in 1727. She does not list Garret. There is a record of a Lammaty (b. 1727) and Garret (b. 1729) on the LDS Family Search which was input by an LDS submitter, but did not come from original records. No other records for Lammaty or Garret exist.
Spouse:
Christoffel Probasco died before 1732 when his widow (Cataline Martense Schenck) remarried Jan Barentse Jansen in Kings County, NY. [1]
If this Garret did exist, he would have remained with his mother in Kings County, NY until at least age 18-20. I can¹t find any other record on him. Also, if he was the father of Samuel Probasco (b. 1799) who married Sarah Risler, he would have been 67 at the time. Though not unheard of, it is very unlikely. It looks like there was a generation skipped in the original genealogy.
