Charles served in the Royal Navy from 11th May 1916 and served on the Ship President II
[2] On 2nd May 1917 he was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant and was serving with the RNAS

In 1938 Charles gave evidence in a court case concerning a motor accident. The newspaper stated Charles Albert Proctor, engineer and assessor, said that he had had 30 years experience of motor engineering and taught that subject at Rutherford Technical College.[4].
Charles died on 21st November 1953 and his death (age 64) was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1953 in the Newcastle-upon-tyne registration district.[5]
His estate passed probate on 19 November 1974 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.[6]
