Biography

William Purvis was born October 24, 1808, in Kentucky, a son of John Purvis and Sarah Ginn. On February 25, 1831, in Sangamon county, Illinios, William married Eliza McMahon Berry, born October 25, 1813, in Kentucky. Children of William and Eliza include:

  1. Sarah Jane Purvis, born January 13, 1840, died December 18, 1891, married 1) Isaac Harness and 2) Oliver Kent Wilcox [1]
  2. John Wesley Purvis, born October 5, 1842, died February 5, 1902, married Nancy Jane Solomon [2]
  3. Elvira Purvis born April 2, 1845, died March 9, 1895, married Atwell Martin [3]

Eliza died December 4, 1866, in Sullivan, Moultrie county, Illinois. On December 23, 1867, in Douglas county, Illinois, William married Ellen Jane (Carter) Tanner, a widow of Samuel Tanner. Ellen Jane was born March 11, 1839, in Bedford, LIberty county, Virginia. Children of William and Ellen include:
