Biography

Birth

Arij was born in 1832^[1] in Zuidland, the son of Jacob Quispel and Geertje Smeerdijk. He was baptized (Calvinist religion) the nezt day, on 2 May 1832 in Zuidland.

Married Life

Arie married Maartje van der Hoeven in 1860.^[2] in Zuidland. They had 15 children from 1863 to 1882. Arie was a farmer (agriculture and cattle raising).

Their son Arij, son of Arij and Maartje, was married in 1910^[3] at the age of 32, born around 1878 in Zuidland. His parents are listed as Arij Quispel and Maartje van der Hoeven.

Death

Arie died on 15 May 1923 in De Lier^[4], at the age of 91. The last years of his life Arie lived with his daughter Sara in De Lier. He was a grumpy looking man, difficult and headstrong. He was stern and rigidly religious. In the family they often did speak French.

The archive consists of 8,000 people since 1549. Sara Quispel was born 16-01-1882 (we write first the date, next the month, so: 16th of January 1882) in the farmers village Zuidland in the province of Zuid-Holland, island Voorne-Putten, where she and her parents originate from; she died 07-04 (march 7) 1945 in Zwolle (in the Eastern part of the country). She married 16-05-1906 (photo present) in the village Zuidland Jacob van Staalduinen (farmer) born 14-08-1877 in Wassenaar, died 18-11-1973 in Westerbork. They had 5 sons and 4 daughters. Jacob van Staalduinen was in the resistance during WW II (1940-1945) and was arrested together with his son in 1944 and inprisoned in Assen by the Germans. They were on the list to be executed. His son in law Kees Veldman was in the resistance too and they raided the prison in Assen and he liberated his father in law and the son. Their farm was confiscated by the Germans. Sara Quispel died just before the end of the war at her eldest daughters house. Daughter Sara born 13-01-1921 in De Lier, married Tienus Hessels born 13-01-1921 in De Lier, migrated to the USA after the war, to Grandville (Mich). There is a book about the Staalduinen's.
