Margaret (Read) Applin was a Virginia colonist.

Margaret Appling first married Richard Appling, perhaps about 1681. Richard died before 26 March 1694 in York County, Virginia.

Margaret Appling, widow of Richard Appling, second married Charles Paine before 24 August 1697.

Richard's Estate

On 26 March 1694 at a Court for York County, Virginia, Margaret Appling, relict of Richard Appling, deceased, was granted administration for his estate. He died intestate. John Doswell and William Partridge became her securities. William Sedgewicke and Henry Watkins witnessed the bond. She was ordered to present a true inventory of the estate to the next Court.[1][2]

Margaret Appling returned the inventory on 24 May 1694.[3]

By 24 August 1697, Margaret married Charles Paine.

On 24 August 1697, Charles Paine and Margarett his wife, administrators of Richard Appling, deceased had judgement granted against John Dozwell for payment.[4]

On 24 September 1697, at an Orphan Court held for York County, Virginia, the Court ordered Charles Paine be summoned to give bond for the estate of Richard Appling after marrying Richard's widow.[5]

On 24 November 1697, the Court ordered the sheriff to taken Charles Paine into custody until he enter into bond.[6]

At Court on 26 September 1699, the orphans of Richard Appling, deceased, by the name of Richard, Thomas, and Joyce were committed to the custody and service of Robert Reade to perform such lawfull service and commands as he shall require of them."[7]

On 24 January 1701 [O.S.], the children were returned to their mother. "Whereas the Children of Richard Applin bound in Court to Mr. Robert Read which he hath returned again to their Mother who personally in Court acknowledged Shee fully Discharges Mr. Robert Read of ye same."[8]
