Clarissa (Reed) White was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.
Biography
Clarissa was born in 1814 the daughter of John Reed and Rebecca Bearce.[1] Clarissa worked in the household of the Prophet Joseph Smith in her early years. The Reed family had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when a neighbor by the name of Levi W. Hancock had converted the family to its docterine. While Clarissa was working for Joseph Smith, the Prophet played matchmaker, and convinced Levi that Clarissa was the girl for him. She married (1) Levi Hancock in 1833.[2] They had 7 children. On 5 June 1848 the Brigham Young Company left winter quarters in Nebraska with with 1220 individuals including Clarissa and her family. They arrived in Utah in late September.[3] Clarissa and Levi were divorced in 1858.[4] She married (2) Thomas Jones White in 1854. They had 3 children. She passed away in 1860.[5]
