Jane was born in about 1530, daughter of Edward Restwold of The Vache in Buckinghamshire and his wife, Agnes Cheyne. She first married Sir Francis Hastings (son of Sir Bryan Hastings and Agnes Portington) of Fenwick in Yorkshire on 20 December 1545 in Lincoln.
After Francis' death, Jane married Robert Lee of Hatfield in Yorkshire, son of Sir Anthony Lee and his wife, Margaret Wyatt.[1] He is said to have been her first husband's successor as Keeper of the Game at Hatfield Chase in 1570. Jane bore her second husband a daughter before separating from him in 1585, going so far as to complain to the Queen about his treatment of her.
A date of death of 1564 has been suggested but Jane is said to have left her husband in 1585. [2] It is therefore unlikely that she died either at Hatfield or at Quarendon as previously suggested.
