Biography

Elizabeth Reynolds was born in 1813 at Wilberforce, NSW. She was the daughter of Richard Beale Reynolds (1769-1837) and Sarah Elizabeth (Sterling) Reynolds (1779-1826).

Her mother died in 1826 and in the Colonial Census conducted in November 1828 she is recorded as living with her father and uncle at Wilberforce.

Elizabeth married a convict William Grovenor (Bullock) Grovenor in 1831 at Wilberforce. They are believed to have had four children:

  1. William Grovenor (Bullock) Grovenor (1831-1908)
  2. James Grovenor Bullock (1833-1834)
  3. Richard Grosvenor (1834-1917)
  4. Elizabeth Grosvenor (abt.1838-)

The family seem to have been going by the surname 'Grovenor' or 'Grovernor' from around 1834.

In 1839 Elizabeth, along with her brother George Reynolds (1815-1896), became one of the first landholders at Gunning.[1]

Her husband William passed away in 1858 at Gunning.

Elizabeth then married John Bell (abt.1813-1885), a widower, on 9 April, 1866 at Gunning. She married under the surname Grovenor. The witnesses were Henry and Lydia Saxby. John had previously married Martha Saxby who had passed away.

Elizabeth died on 10 March and was buried on 12 Mar 1885 at the Wesleyan Church, Gunning.
