Biography

Christina Rhymer was born on 15 July 1836 near Cedar Springs in Smyth County, Virgina to Balser and Katie Rimer.^[1][2]

In the 1850 census Christina (13) was in District 68, Wythe, Virginia, United States.^[3] She was living with her mother Catherine (55), and sisters Catherine (9) and Polly (22).

Christina's daughter Margaret Ann (1859-1929) was born on 15 August 1859. Christina had no other recorded children and never married. Christina's marital status was listed as "single" throughout her life.^[2][4]

In the 1880 census Christina (age 45) is boarding with her daughter's family in Saint Clair, Smyth, Virginia, United States.^[4]

In the 1910 census Christina (age 75) is residing with her daughter's family in Grant, Antelope, Nebraska, United States.^[5]

Christina became chronically ill ("an invalid") in about 1910, and completely lost her siight two years later.^[1]

Christina died on 3 May 1925 in Battle Creek, Nebraska. ^[2][1] She was buried in Union Cemetery in Battle Creek.^[6]

Research Notes

In the 1860 census a Cristina Wrymer (age 20) was in Smyth, Virginia, United States.^[7] She was living with the family of a William Scott. However, there is no mention of an infant (Maggie). Could be the wrong Christina, or Maggie's birthdate could be wrong. In the 1850 census, there is a young Scott couple (James and Charity) enumerated directly after the Rimers.^[3]
