Life Events

George Edward Rich was born on th 3rd May 1863, in Braidwood, New South Wales, Australia, the son of Charles Rich and Isabella Bird.[2]

Sir George married firstly Elizabeth Steer Bowker, daughter of Richard Ryther Steer Bowker and Lydia Frances Phillips, on 5 December 1894 in St Paul's, Paterson, New South wales.[3] George and Elizabeth had three children in the next eight years:

  1. John Stanser (10th October 1895 – 17th May 1915)
  2. Lydia Tempest (21st December 1896 – 11th April 1988)
  3. George Steer Bowker (27th July 1902 – 6th June 1964)


Sir George married secondly Letitia Fetherstonhaugh (Woodward) Strong (a widow, born 1881 or 1882, St Kilda, Victoria, Australia, to Roland and Charlotte Woodward) on the 10th November 1950, in St James Piccadilly, Westminster, England.

Sir George Edward Rich KC PC KCMG passed away on the 14th May 1956, in Elizabeth Bay, New South Wales, Australia, just eleven days past his 93rd birthday.[4]
