Ella Mariah Ridenour was born in 1870 in Cass, Indiana, the daughter of William Ridenour and Cornelia Mowly. Ella married James Matthew Cree. They had at least three children. She died in 1953, aged 82-83, in Cass, Indiana, and is buried with her husband James at Galveston Cemetery, Galveston, Indiana.[1]
James M. Cree and Ella M. Ridenour were married on 12 February 1890 in Cass County, Indiana.[2]
In 1900, the Cree family lived in Deer Creek Township, Cass, Indiana. All members of the household were born in Indiana. The household included James M. Cree, 35, born in June 1865, whose father was born in Pennsylvania and his mother was born in Ohio, a carpenter who owned their house without a mortgage; his wife of ten years, Ella M., 30, b. Feb 1870, parents b. Maryland. Ella had had four children, all were living. Ella and James could read and write; their four children, Cullie C., 10, b. Nov 1890; Charles H., 8, b. Nov 1892; Franklin E., 5, b. Jan 1895; and Ruby M., 3 months, b. Feb 1900.[3]
In 1910, the Cree family lived on their rented farm in Deer Creek, Indiana. All were born in Indiana; and all could read and write, except for the two youngest children. The household included James M. Cree, 45, a farmer; his wife of 20 years (first marriage for each), Ella M., 40, who had had five children, all living; their children, Cullie C., 19, farm hand; Charles H., 17, farm hand; Frankie E., 15, farm hand and in school; Ruby N., 10, in school; and Bessie L., 7, in school.[4]
In 1920, the Cree family lived in Jackson, Cass, Indiana. All were born in Indiana, and all could read and write. The household included James M. Cree, 54, a farmer, who owned their farm with a mortgage; his wife Ella M., 48; their children, Bessie L., 17, in school; and Frank E., 24, farm laborer.[5]
In 1930, the Cree family lived at 1213 Walnut Street, Gardena, Los Angeles county, California. They rented their house for $26 per month, and they had a radio. The household included James M. Cree, 64, who married at age 24, a contractor/carpenter in the house building industry; his wife, Ella M., 60, married at 20, a practical nurse in private homes; and their daughter, Mrs. Bessie C. Daggett, 27, married, married at 20, an office attendant at a medical/dental office.[6]
She passed away about 1953. [7]
