Biography

Except as otherwise footnoted, the following adapted from Seward County Kansas.[1]

Ira was born 3 Jan 1883 in Memphis, Missouri the son of Albert and Minerva (Shawley) Riney. His mother passed away just before his second birthday and he was raised, at least for a time, by an aunt and uncle living in Protection, Commanche County, Kansas. In 1905, Ira is found living in Pratt, Kansas with his father Albert and Albert's second wife Emma whom he had married about 1891.[2][3] On 16 Jun 1912, he married Eva Guyer at Protection, Kansas. They first made their home in Protection[4] but in 1915 moved to Liberal, Kansas. Initially living west of the old Baptist Church, in 1916 they moved to 422 N Sherman Avenue in Liberal, Kansas where they remained until 1930.[5][6]

Ira was in the poster advertising business and real estate with J.T. Newby. When that partnership dissolved in 1925, Ira concentrated his time on his farming interests in Seward and Stevens counties raising wheat, kaffir corn and cattle. In 1930, Ira and Eva moved to Scott City, Kansas where Ira passed away 6 Jul 1939. He was returned to Liberal, Kansas for interment at the Liberal Cemetery.
