Susan was mentioned in the 1846 will of her father, Daniel Roberts: "I also give and bequeath unto my son James Roberts and daughters Susan Carr, Caroline Clinton and Martha Ellison and my grandson James Roberts son of John Roberts deceased the following described negro slaves to wit. Peter a boy, Biddy a woman wife of Peter, Willis a boy and Nella a woman wife of Willis and Phebe a girl child of Nella and Willis to be equally divided between the before mentioned children and grandson James Roberts.
