Joseph Ross was b. abt. 1838, the son of Donald Ross and Joanna Hartsgrove. The date of birth was taken from his tombstone in Littleton Cemetery[1]
In 1861 he is found in the St. Mary, York, New Brunswick, Canada census, living with his parents Donald Ross and Joanna[2]
In 1864 he moved to Littleton, Aroostook, Maine, and was naturalized in 1875.[3]
He married Hester (Esther) Weeks abt 1863-1864. A marriage record has not been found.
He joined the U.S. Army and served during the civil war, Company B, Maine 11th Infantry Regiment [4] A record was found stating that he was a substitute, his enlistment being for one year.[5]
His wife Hester died in 1907 and Joseph went to live with his daughter Alice Edith and her husband William S. Adams.[6]By 1920 he was living with his daughter Susie in Caribou, Aroostook, Maine[7]
Joseph died in 1924 and is buried in Littleton Cemetery. His tombstone does not have his date of death.
