In June 1842, the greater number of both the Rowlands and Jones families decided to leave Wales for America. In Liverpool they boarded the sailing vessel, "Eliza Dennison". John's wife, Ann Jones Rowlands, died aboard ship and was buried at sea.
He passed away in 1850 in Delaware County, Ohio. [2]
