Biography

William was born in 1851. [1] He was the son of Israel Rupe and Sarah Coons. He passed away in 1936 of natural causes, just hours after his son Charles succombed to a ruptured appendix in another state. [1]

In April 1910, The Tonkawa News interviewed a variety of farmers in the area, including William:

"William Rupe was found clearing a field of big corn stalks, preparatory to raising some more of the same kind. He has also been by thinning out the catalpa trees that line the roadside in front of his farm. He has cut them into post lengths, and some of them will split into four posts. Mr. Rupe bought this place of J.C. Bond nine years ago for $6,500, and he says that now that the big ditch will keep him from being flooded with the waters of Bird Nest creek, $16,000 would not buy it. He took as a claim the farm now owned and occupied by Elias Walker, northwest of Tonkawa. Three years ago he bought a 160 acre farm near Owens for his sons.

Miss Jessie Rupe, who has been so very sick and has been in the hosptial at Wichita undergoing an operation, is getting much better and it is hoped she will entirely recover." [2]
