Ethel & Walter held a farming property in the 'New Mexico' region, near Manilla, NSW; probably at Rushes Creek. On 20 April 1920, mention was made in the Manilla Express that their farm had been leased and the family was intending to move "down country".
A new farm was purchased in April 1922, at Scotch Creek, Miller's Forest in the Hunter Valley, which was home territory for both: [1]Maitland Mercury, 28 April 1922.
Walter became much involved in community activities at Miller's Forest. Ethel was postmistress, organist at the church, and assisted in the newly-established library.
With Walter's health failing, their Scotch Creek farm was sold in 1927, their intention apparently being to move to Mayfield, near Newcastle. Mention was made in newspaper items: [2]Maitland Mercury, 24 September 1927 and [3]Maitland Weekly Mercury, 15 October 1927. However, Walter's obituary in 1929 indicates that he died at Pittwater-road, Dee Why, said to be his home.
