Stephen Vincent Ryan born 1 January 1825 in Almonte, Ontario and later moved with his family to Pennsylvania, where he entered St. Charles Borromeo Seminary at Overbrook in 1841. [1]
"son of Martin Ryan from Tipperary County, near Thurles, and Catherine McCarthy from Limerick ... resided at Sixmile Bridge, County Clare, where five of their nine children were born. ... family emigrated about 1828 to Pottsville, Schuylkill, Co, Pennsylvania.[2]

His children were James F., William, a Catholic priest; Stephen V., bishop of the diocese.of Buffalo, N. Y., and Kate, wife of Capt. Henry McCloskey. [13]
