Johan Samuel became the owner of half his father's land, which he
increased until he owned 200 acres. He served as deacon of the
Lutheran congregation at Egypt in 1767, and also as treasurer. In
1785 he served on the building committee for the new church. He was
one of the leading men of Whitehall Township.
