- Johan Samuel became the owner of half his father's land, which he
- increased until he owned 200 acres. He served as deacon of the
- Lutheran congregation at Egypt in 1767, and also as treasurer. In
- 1785 he served on the building committee for the new church. He was
- one of the leading men of Whitehall Township.
