Stephen was born 26 Sep 1789 in Vermont. He was the son of Unknown Salsbury.
Stephen Salsbury and Nancy Stockwell were probably married about 1814.
Stephen Salsbury was a Private in the New York Militia serving under Capt Hutchinson. He joined 6 Oct 1814 at Newport, Herkimer County, New York and served for 6 weeks.[1] His name was spelled Salsbury on his pension application.
In 1830 he was living in Yates, Orleans County, New York.[2] The household included 1 male age 15 to 19 (son Stephen), 1 male age 30 to 39 (brother James age 34), 1 male 40 to 49 (Stephen), 2 females under 5 (Orissa, Susan,), 1 female 5 to 9 (daughter Nancy), 2 females 10 to 14 (unknown, unknown), and 1 female 30 to 39 (wife Nancy).
On 20 Jun 1834 Stephen Salisbury purchased 75 acres in lot 3, township 16, Orleans County from the Holland Land Company for $389.[3] Lot 3 is southwest of Lindenville.[4]
In 1840 he was living in Yates, Orleans, New York.[5] The household included 1 male 5 to 9 (Jonathan), 1 male 20 to 29 (son Stephen), 1 male 40 to 49 (brother James), 1 male 50 to 59 (Stephen), 1 female 10 to 14 (unknown), 1 female 15 to 19 (unknown), 1 female 40 to 49 (wife Nancy) and 1 female 70 to 79 (mother Hepzibah).
In 1850 he was living in Yates, Orleans, New York.[6] The household included Stephen Salisbery 61, Nancy Salisbery 57, Susan Salisbury 28, Jonathan Salisbery 17, James Salisbury 53 and Ornisa Salisbery 20. Stephen was a farmer and ??, Jonathan and James were farmers.
In 1855 he was living in E.D. Eastern, Yates, Orleans, New York.[7] The household included Stephen Salsbury 65, wife Nancy H Salsbury 62, child J W Salsbury 22, child A Salsbury 23, and brother James Salbury 58. Stephen and JW were farmers. James was reported as idiotic.
On 1 Aug 1859 he applied for a pension for his service in the War of 1812.[1] He received a land warrant for 50 acres and another for 120 acres.
In 1860 he was living in Town of Yates, Orleans, New York.[8] The household included Stephen Salisbury 70, Nancy H Salisbury 67, Jonathan W Salisbury 27, Sarah A Salisbury 28, Halle E Salisbury 4, Frank E Salisbury 3, Harriet Wells 14, and James Salisbury 63. Stephen was a farmer.
He died 16 Jan 1861, probably in Orleans County, New York
and is buried in Lynhaven Cemetery, Lyndonville, Orleans County, New York.[9]
