In the 1840 Census [1] Isaac is living in Fayette County, Virginia (now West Virginia). In his household are two boys under 5, one boy 15-19, a man 40-49 (Isaac), one girl under 5, two girls 5-9 and a woman 40-49. This woman was presumably his wife who may have passed away prior to 1849 because in that year Isaac married Elizabeth Taylor on March 31, 1849 in Fayette County. [2][3]
In the 1850 Census, Isaac and Elizabeth are on their farm, valued at $800, in Fayette County with 4 children from his previous marriage. [4] In 1860 Isaac's profession is given as a miller, with real estate valued at $1200 and personal property valued at $200. Living with Isaac and Elizabeth are William Sanner, his grandson age 7, and James T Ewing, age 12, a "bound boy". [5]
Isaac wrote his will in Fayette County, West Virginia on June 2, 1869 and it was probated on July 13, putting his death some between those dates. In his will he left almost the entirety of his estate to his wife Elizabeth. The executor was Benjamin Taylor, no doubt a relative of Elizabeth. The only mention he makes of his children, who would all be from his previous wife, is when he "directs any bonds and claims owing to me be collected by my executor hereinafter named and after paying my debts of whatever character they may be, then the remainder, if any be left, is to be appropriated to the use and benefit of my wife if she needs it and if she does not need it then my executor is hereby authorized to divide the residue equally among my heirs."
