Susan (Savage) Synnott migrated from Ireland to New Zealand.
Biography
Susan Mary Savage was born on November 4, 1845, in Kurrachee, Bombay, India and was baptized there on November 9, 1845.[1] Her parents were William Savage[2][3] and Susanna Holmes.[3]
Susan immigrated to New Zealand with her husband, two daughters, and sister on the ship 'Star of India' in 1874.[10] The family first went Wanganui, then removed to Normanby, where her husband joined the volunteer constabulary at Waihi towards the close of the Maori War. When the volunteers disbanded the family moved to Hawera.[11]
Susan died on June 3, 1915, at her home, High street, Hawera[3][19][20] from a Cerebral Haemorrhage and Respiratory Paralysis.[3] She was buried on June 6, 1915, in Hawera Cemetery.[3][21][22][23]
Obituary
Many friends will regret to see the record of the death of Mrs Synott, wife of Mr Thos. Synott, a very old resident of Hawera. Deceased who was 70 years of age, about ten days ago suffered a paralytic seizure, and passed away peacefully early this morning. Deceased, with her husband, came to Hawera over 33 years ago, and they have resided here ever since. Deceased leaves, besides a husband, a large grown-up family.[24]
