Sarah was born in Hunslet, Yorkshire, England, in 1874. (Hunslet is an inner-city area in south Leeds). She was the daughter of Joseph Sawyer and Eliza Raper. Sarah's father passed away in 1884. Her mother re-married in 1889. Sarah was enumerated in the 1891 census residing with her mother and five siblings in the household of step-father Fred Abbishaw in Rothwell. (Rothwell is a market town in the south-east of the City of Leeds).
Sarah was baptized at age nineteen on September 27, 1893, in Rothwell, at Holy Trinity. Her mother, Eliza Ann, and siblings Harry, George, William, Thomas and James, would be baptized the following week on October 4th. Sarah passed away three months later in December, 1893. Whether her baptism, or that of her mother and siblings, had anything to do with an illness is unknown. Sarah was buried on December 16, 1893, at Holy Trinity. she was only nineteen.
