Biography

Mary was mentioned in her father's will as Mary Lacy: "first to my daughter Mary Lacey I do give the sum of ten pounds currency of Newfoundland"[1].

Notes

There were several, apparently distinct, Mary Laceys, with very similar names and dates in the area at that time; including a Mary Lacey who married a Simon Manuel. There was a Mary Ann who married to a William Lacey in Sergeants Cove, Exploits[2]; and a separate Mary Lacey, (widow Montgomery, probably born Winsor) who married a Simon Lacey (of Exploits) in St John's[3].

Poorly sourced online trees have several conflicting family trees for the children listed here as William Lacey and Mary's. In particular, several trees have a Thomas R Lacey married to a Susannah as the parents. Close inspection shows too many improbable details (including multiple records of births and deaths in Tennessee and Iowa, USA) for this Thomas and Susannah to be seriously considered, and I've merged those profiles away.

Of the remaining trees, most have Mary's maiden name as 'Sceviour'. This suggests she was the Mary Lacey nee Sceviour, attested as the daughter of William Sceviour in his will. I've done my best to sort of who was married to whom, and who was whose parent. But most of these connections among William and Mary's family are highly speculative --- BRF.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
