Biography

Johann Christian Schwend was born February 21, 1715 and died August 07, 1768 in Willershausen. He was baptized February 24, 1715, with his god father being Johan Christian Seebach (relationship unknown), and confirmed May 26, 1738. Christian (often written in the old records as Xstian) Schwend, the father of the four Schwend brothers who were Hessian soldiers, three in the American Revolution, was a church elder in Willershausen in 1757, 1759, 1764, and 1768. He was a tenant(?) in 1764. On his death record dated August 8, 1768, it says "the church elder, Johann Henrich(?) Schwende, age: 53 years, 5 months, 18 days". Christian married Anna Barbara Eisenberg May 26, 1738 in Markershausen, Hessen-Kessel (ten days after the birth of their first child). This was written by James I. Johnston.
