Biography

Andrew Schwirian was born on December 7, 1869 in Dobshau, Austria-Hungary (now Dobsina, Roznava, Slovakia). In 1891, [1]he immigrated to the United States and settled in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. [2] In 1893, he married Susanna Thern, also of Dobshau, Austria-Hungary. They had 11 children, 10 living to adulthood. Early in 1900 he made his living as a coal miner. By 1910 [3] he had learned the carpentry trade and was farming. He had an eighth grade education. [4] He died on June 6, 1946 in Elizabeth Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was buried on June 10, 1946, next to his wife, in West Newton Cemetery, West Newton, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. [5] [6] [7]
