Research Notes

I am finding no supporting sources at all that Levy ever used any other name. Certainly there is nothing I have found that says he ever called himself "Lafe", or even "Louis". When he signed his own name on his naturalization documents, he signed as "Levy Schönberg"; he appears on the residential directories as "Levy". The closest thing is the 1880 census where the enumerator lists him as "Louis Schoemberg"; and the 1910 census where he is enumerated as his son's father-in-law, "Louis Shonberg". All other documents found list him as Levy, or Levi, with one as "Lewi". The only so far found mention of him as "Lafe" is when his daughter Minnie died - and he certainly did not name himself in that mention. Paul-5413 08:11, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
