Biography


Douglas Seaton Sr c1900

He started barbering in 1896 in Dresden, Ontario. In 1908 he moved to Dundas, Ontario and opened a barber shop. In 1912, he sold his business and moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where he barbered for 2 years. He then returned to Dundas, bought his business back and continued his trade until he retired in October 1958 after 62 years in the business.

Obituary

"Douglas Seaton died on January 6th 1959, at his home, 21 Sydenham St. Dundas. Born at St. Marys, Ontario in 1873, Mr. Seaton came to Dundas 54 years ago, and had operated a Barbershop until his retirement last October. Surviving besides his wife, the former Charlotte Hair, are two sons, Henry of California and John of Dundas; three daughters, Mrs. Major Eugene White [Reta] of Fenlon Falls, Mrs. Robert Neale [Cora] and Mrs. Malcolm Howitt [Theo] both of Dundas; and one sister, Mrs. Jacob Stamm, of Sarnia.

The funeral was held on Friday afternoon on at the Cattel Funeral Home Dundas with Rev. A.J. MacLachian in charge. The internment was in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario. The pallbearers were Alden Brown, Alex Cameron, Geo. Hinshelwood, Edward Gillow, Ashley Reed and Bill Alcroft.

Douglas Seaton was the son of Enoch Seaton and Angeline Lockery. "
