Biography

The early years

Claire was born about 1872. She is the daughter of William C Sheaffer ^[1] and Elizabeth Crawford.

Family LIfe

It is believed that Claire would first marry Thomas Shreve on the 8th of November 1892 in Denver, Colorado^[2] and they would have a son named Lyle.

She would then marry Ambrose J Raymond about 1903^[3].

She would then marry Stephen Isten^[4] on the 16th of November 1916 in Kootenai, Idaho^[5] and it is not believed they had any children.

Through the years

In 1900^[6] they were living in a boarding house on Haight Street in San Francisco. Living with them in the same building is Florence Disbrow (Her brother Royal's sister in law). Thomas is 34, working as a wine merchant, Claire is 28 and Lyle is 5.

In 1910^[3] she and Ambrose were living on Lisbon Street in San Francisco. He was working as a plumber and they owned their own home with a mortgage.

In 1919 they were living at E3230 Ave Spokane, Washington and Stephen was working as a laborer^[7]

In 1920^[8] he was working in a Lumber Mill and would be living on Shotwell road in Little Rock, Thurston, Washington in a home with a mortgage.Stephen was 42 and Claire was 45.

Death

She passed away in Seattle on the 10th of October 1925^[9].

Obituary ^[10]

Seattle Times Oct 14, 1925 Rites for Recent Arrival Funeral services for Mrs. Claire Isten, who died Saturday in a local hospital, were held this morning at Butterworth Mortuary with the Rev. JDO Powers, officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Isten had been in Seattle only a few months and her only relative was a niece in Montana.
