Biography

Lovalla was born in 1860. She is the daughter of Calvin Shepherd and Matilda Cole.^[1]
Her first name is transcribed differently everywhere: Lovalla, Louella, Lorally, Lorella, Loerally. Her last name Shepherd also appears as Sheppard or Shepard.
She married Phineas Kinsey at age 18.^[2] In the 1891 census, living with her husband and children in Aylmer, she was listed along with her husband, as a Quaker.^[3] By 1911, the widowed Lovalla and her family were lisred as Baptists. Lovalla was living in London, Ontario with her daughter Hilda and Hilda's three children, along with her unmarried son Ray. Lovalla is transcribed by LAC as 'Balla McKenzie'.^[4]
According to her death certificate, she died at age 74, of pneumonia in hospital in London, Ontario. The informant was her daughter, Mrs. Clarence Dye. Her daughter provided the name Lovalla Kinsey, residence, 151 Horton Street, London, Ontario.^[5]
