Gloria Gaither (born Gloria Lee Sickal) is a Christian singer-songwriter, author, speaker, editor, and academic. Together, with her husband, Bill Gaither, they have written hundreds of gospel songs.
Gloria Lee Sickal was born on March 4, 1942 in Battle Creek, Calhoun, Michigan, United States, daughter of Wilfred Lee Sickal (1907–1974) and Dorothy Effie Boster (1909–1993).[1]
Gloria married Bill Gaither, son of George William Gaither and Leila Ogla (Hartwell) Gaither. They would have three children, all of whom are involved in Christian music.
Collectively, the Gaithers have 8 Grammy Awards with multiple nominations and over 40 Gospel Music Awards with multiple nominations. They have both been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame.
In 2000, Bill and Gloria were named Christian Songwriters of the Century which is an award based on songwriters who have had the most songs recorded in the past 100 years. Gloria has written 40 books, 20 of which are children's books. She continues as writer, interviewer and contributing editor of the "Homecoming: The Magazine" that she established in 2002.
