William James Clifford Silverthorn, better known as Cliff, was born 26 November 1909 at Meaford, Grey county, Ontario to Ben Silverthorn and Annie (Brown) Silverthorn.[1]

In the 1911 census, Cliff, aged 1, is living on a farm at Lot 11, Concession 11, St Vincent township, North Grey county with his father, Benjamin, and his mother, Annie, both aged 27.[2] Cliff's sister, Perle, was born on that farm on 8 December 1911.

Sometime in 1912, the family moved to a farm seven miles east of Ardath, Saskatchewan. The land location for the farm was Section 30, Township 30, Range 8, West of the 3rd Meridian. It was in the Rural Municipality of Fertile Valley. This farm was purchased from Cliff's uncle, Aaron Silverthorn. Aaron and his wife, Annie, had decided to move back to Ontario. It was here that Cliff's other siblings, Kay and Don were born.

Cliff married Vera Irene Clark on 19 October 1938 at the United Church in Ardath. Vera's parents, Ira Clark and Sadie (Lepper) Clark were among the very first settlers in the Ardath area. Cliff and Vera lived on a farm just across the road from Cliff's parents. Cliff and Vera had 5 daughters, one of whom died in infancy.

Cliff was very active in the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks at Conquest, Saskatchewan for many years.

Cliff lived on the farm until his death on 21 September 1984. A funeral service was held for him on 24 September 1984 at Ardath United Church[3] and he was buried in Fertile Valley Cemetery near Conquest, Saskatchewan.[4]
