Hannah's year of birth (1733 or 1734) is known from her gravestone.[1] It is quite certain (see Research Notes below) that she was born in Lebanon, Connecticut, 31 Jul 1734 to parents Matthew and Mary (Lyman) Smith. The connection to these parents is provided by her marriage record, which states her father's given name Matheu (Matthew).
[2] Hannah married John Dimmick Sr. 17 Jan 1753 in Mansfield, Connecticut Colony.[2] The marriage record also states the date of birth of their first child, John (Dimock) Dimick Jr., 18 Nov 1753.
Hannah died 25 May 1777 and was buried in the Dimick cemetery in Stafford, Tolland County, Connecticut.[1]
Research Notes
Caution: The following information focuses on Hannah's origins (her parents and siblings), not on Hannah's married life.
The record of Hannah Smith's marriage to John Dimmick readily traces to original town records of Mansfield.[2][3] That record gives her father's name, Matheu (Mathew, Matthew). Earlier versions of this profile suggested that Hannah was born in Mansfield or nearby. Searching more broadly, one finds Hannah, daughter of Matthew and Mary Smith, born in Lebanon, Connecticut 31 Jul 1734.[4] This is the only period-appropriate occurrence in Connecticut records of father Matthew Smith with daughter Hannah.
