My part of the tree is attempting to show all people in North America that have the surname Hallowell or Hollowell and their ancestors to determine if or how these family groups may be related. It identifies the chronological order of immigrants to North America by identifying each immigrant's ancestors by their state of arrival in Hallowell/Hollowell immigrant order. For example: MA1 is added as a nickname for every descendant Hallowell of the first Hallowell/Holloway that arrived in Massachusetts. By far the largest line is for the initial PA Hallowell line from the immigrant John Hallowell (1683) - this line has no family designator {it is PA1} included on those descendants - so if the line has no family designator it is actually PA1.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Bruce or other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Bruce:

I would speculate that they may have been sympathetic to the Revolutionary cause, but it appears that neither of your Hallowell ancestors who were adults during the war actively participated in the military. At least there are no records I could find that document that. A few Hallowell men who were Quakers did join the military, but not many, as might be expected

Is there any way you could find out if they gave/lent money to the Revolutionary Cause?

Wow you sure put a lot of work into this. Do you have any documentation that shows John Hallowell and/or William Hallowell helping out the Patriots in the Revolutionary War/

Hi, Bruce,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA.

When you have your part of our One Big Tree fleshed out and you are ready to supplement it with DNA test matches, please check out the DNA Help category page to see all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started page in particular.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of the DNA match.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. A profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source documentation for both genealogy and DNA test matching. Also, try out the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker app, it can simplify the job of creating and/or validating source citatations for DNA confirmation.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".

Hi Bruce,

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.

I wonder what others have done in this situation: I have been researching and compiling a family tree for over 20 years and it is posted on Ancestry.com titled "Hallowells of North America" and it contains carefully documented profiles on over 30,000 related people. I intended to upload my GEDCOM, but apparently wikitree limits the GEDCOM size to 5,000 names and Ancestry.com does not allow you to split their GEDCOM. So, I am left with manually re-typing thousands of people? Surely, this is not a viable way to grow a world-wide family tree. I'm most excited about the opportunity to link with others documenting the surname, especially from distant Hallowell/Hollowell branches as I have already had 4 Hallowell cousins from my immigrant tree confirm our relationship with identical matching 33 marker Y-DNA tests. I'm looking for potential cousins in the other 20-plus Hallowell/Hollowell immigrant branches that I have tried to document as well.

I have over 30,000 folks in my ancestry.com tree that I think I uploaded correctly... but it still shows me as a guest member. What else do I need to do to upgrade my account?
