Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Joshua Smith is a part of US Black heritage.

Joshua was born free about 1839. He is the son of Moses Smith and Rachel Unknown. He traveled on the Ship Banshee from Baltimore, MD on 9 November 1853 for Monrovia, Liberia through the auspices of the American Colonization Society, with his family. They arrived arrived Monrovia January 1854. Joshua is recorded as being 15 yrs old, and in the 1850 Census he was recorded as 11 yrs old.[1]
