Joyce was born in 1730 at Bristol in the Province of Massachusetts Bay (now part of Rhode Island). She was the daughter of Daniel Smith and Elizabeth Cary.[1]
She married Isaac Young of Newport on 22 December 1753 at Bristol.[2] Children, recorded at Bristol:[3]
She passed away in 1804 and was buried at the East Burial Ground at Bristol.[4][5]
From the naming of their first son George, it is to be wondered if Isaac was the son Isaac Young born at Scituate in Plymouth County to George and Mary (Stockbridge) Young on 15 March 1722/3. According to the Mayflower Families series, there is no further record of this son, but there is also no probate record known for George or Mary. This identification is given a small amount of further support by a gravestone at Bristol for Sarah Young, which reportedly names her parents Joseph and Lydia Young of Scituate. This is the only other known record of a Young family in Bristol from this time period, so it would not be surprising if Isaac and Joseph were kin. This Joseph was probably brother to George Young mentioned as the possible father to Isaac.
