Mary Elizabeth Smith was born 19 March 1908 in Alabama, FL to Bettie Smith and Willie Young. [1]
Mary Elizabeth Smith married Newton Ayers (1899-1959) 19 May 1928 in Marengo, Alabama[2]
They had many children.
In 1940, Newton was 40, Mary was 30, Frank was 14, Edie Mae (Maxine Elizabeth) was 3, and Newton 1. Dad was still renting the farm he was working at Linden and Gallion Roads for $3 a month. His education level was 4th grade.[3]
In 1950, he was working on his own account in Marengo. Maxine 13, Newton, 11, Charlie H, 10, Murrey L, 9, Foddie M 8, and Albert L 4 were still in the house.[4]
Mary moved to Apopka, Orange, Florida where the family began working in farming and other pursuits. She lived in her daughter Maxine's home.[5]
Mary Elizabeth Young Ayers died on 14 May 2006 at age 96 in Apopka, Orange, Florida.[6]
She was buried in the Ayers Family Cemetery in Linden, Marengo, Alabama with many of her family members.[7]
