Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1794 in Wigginton, Staffordshire, England.

She married Thomas Wilkins on 6 November 1815 at Tamworth, Staffordshire.[1]

Using Find My Past Staffordshire Baptims, it appears that the couple had the following children while living in the Tamworth area:

  • Mary Anne (baptised 1816)
  • William (Bap 1817)
  • Thomas (Bap 1820) - already have him as born around 1821 in Comberford nr Tamworth
  • John (Bap 1823)
  • Joseph (Bap 1825)

There are no children recorded in the Burial for this church (St Editha) that fit, so I assume that all children survived until the fmaily move away.

Betty lived in the Derbyshire and Leicestershire parts of Appleby Magna from at least 1835 until her death in 1874.

Census returns: 1841 - Derbyshire with children: William, Elizabeth, James, Henry & Charles[2]

1851 - The household was made up of Thomas & Elizabeth and their children William (33), Henry (16) and Charles (13). [3]

1861 - Thomas and Betty are living on Church Street in the Leicestershire part of the village. [4]

1871- Elizabeth is now windowed and living in the Derbyshire part of the village with her son Thomas, his wife Sarah and thier niece Ellen.[5]

She is buried in St Michael's churchyard in the village.

Charles's birth cert confirms maiden name. GRO search suggests Charles in the youngest of Betty's children.

Death certifcate informant = Mary Wilkins, present at the death, Appleby. Not sure if this is a daughter, daughter-in-law, other family member, or not related.
