Biography

Jesse Jackson "J.J." Smith was born in May 16, 1901 in Marshall County, Alabama. He was the son of Jacob Breckinridge Smith and Josephine Brooks Smith. [1]

On the 1910 Census, Jesse Jackson Smith was living in the household of his father, Jacob Breckinridge Smith, and his stepmother, Eliza Ellen Crawford Smith. The family lived in Waco, Haralson County, Georgia.[2]

He married Ruth Bradley in about 1920.

On the 1920 Census, Jesse was listed as a married, white male living in Haralson County, Georgia, with his wife, Ruth. He was a farmer on a general farm. His birthplace was listed as Alabama, and the birthplace of his parents were listed as the United States. According to the census, he could read and write. He was the head of the household, and he and Ruth had a boarder named Earl Powell.[3]

He passed away in October 9, 1924 in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia.[4]According to his death certificate, he died of Acute Nephritis.[1] He was buried at the Smith Family Cemetery on the edge of Bremen City Cemetery in Bremen, Haralson County, Georgia.[5]
