Biography

Vincent Snow, Captain, Virginia Militia, War of 1812 wife Mary (Polly) Walden, married 1803.

The 1820 census found him in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Note picture of page 2 of letter attached, written by grandson of Vincent's son Jabez; namely, Claude A. Thompson, in 1940. Page 1 is attached to father, Thomas, as it pertained more to Thomas, and HIS father, Thomas Sr. This page does reference Vincent's uncle Mark Snow as well. Vincent's father Thomas, and Thomas' brother Mark were in the Revolutionary War, under General Nathaniel Green. Jabez's daughter Clara was Claude's mother. Two of Vincent's sons, Abner and Richard D. Snow, were in the Civil War.

I have noticed probable errors in Vincent's genealogy on FamilySearch.org if someone is to delve further on Vincent's line and use FamilySearch. They list an additional son, "John", but I believe that's an error where Vincent's son Jehu was referred to as John in the heading of a census. When you opened the census, you could see clearly the spelling was Jehu, not John. Also, FamilySearch has 2 Elizabeths listed, born 1810 and 1813. Most likely just one; as only one Elizabeth in mentioned in the Snow bible, as there is no mention of a John Snow.

Eight of Vincent's grandsons were in the Civil War; see bios of sons Abner, Richard D., and Osborne Terry for details.

In the 1830 census of Campbell, on the same page as an entry for son Richard, is an entry for a home headed by Polly Snow, with 5 boys and 3 girls. No doubt the 5 remaining brothers after Vincent passed away, and Richard started off on his own. There is a third home on that page headed by a Daniel Snow. I believe he's a cousin from the Trooper John line.
