Biography

Jabez Snow wed Frances Parker in the first of 4 Snow-Parker weddings. Within 20 years of this union, Jabez's niece Martha married Alexander Parker, one of Frances' brothers. Another niece of Jabez, Barella, married Eli Parker, who was another brother of Frances. Nephew Richard Snow married Mary Parker. Richard, Martha and Barella were Vincent Snow's children.

I've created profiles for 8 children of Jabez Snow and spouse Frances. There were 2, possibly 3 more, but I don't have substantial evidence to add them. Per FamilySearch.org, there was a Thomas Snow who sadly, was born in 1829, died 1830. There was another child short-lived, Emily Craton Snow, born 1832, died 1835. Another possible child is listed as William Y. Snow, born 1843. Can't confirm that, and I wouldn't be surprised to find he is a duplicate of William Jabez, born 1830, and that the birth dates were confused.

Several census reports mark the timeline for Jabez. In 1820 Jabez is shown in Bedford as in the 26-45 age column, and spouse Frances as in the 17-26 age group. Two girls listed in the under 5 group; Martha and Mary.

The family moved to Franklin County Virginia sometime after that, and that is stated in death record as the place of birth of son William J. Snow, who died in 1878. There is a Franklin County census as well, that shows Jabez and family living there in 1830.

By 1840 the family had returned to Bedford, and had grown to 3 boys, 6 girls. Jabez and Frances were listed in the 40-50 age column in this report. On the same page in that record was nephew Richard D. Snow.

1850 census of Bedford County gives evidence to year of death of Jabez Snow, as it shows widow Frances Parker Snow as head of household, with 6 children. The 1850 death records of Bedford County show a "Jakey" Snow died in August of 1849, more than likely Jabez. Certainly not coincidentally, around this time, young relatives George Washington Snow, spouse Nancy Catherine Mattox Snow, and their 2 girls Frances Tabitha 3, and Catherine D, 2 years old, lived next door. George Washington Snow, son of G W Snow Sr, son of Mark Snow 1764-1843. brother to Thomas Snow 1757-1830 and of Jabez.
