The Adamsville African American Cemetery approxmatelly 3 to 5 acres in size. Located on private property behind the Village of Fenney, South of Adamsville Cemetery.
This Cemetery is abandoned, and no longer in use. A GPR study will need to be done to locate all graves and help establish the boundaries of the historic cemetery.
Adamsville African American Cemetery is on record with the Register of deceased veterans, Florida, no. 60, Sumter County prepared by Veterans' Graves Registration Project, Division of Professional and Service Projects, Work Projects Administration 1940-1941 Sponsored by Military Department, State of Florida; co-sponsored by the American Legion, Department of Florida. Cemetery is located in Section 5, Township 20S, Range 23E
Description From WPA Listing: From point where State Road #23 (US 301) turns east in Coleman, go east on Leesburg Rd. ( Hwy 468) 2 1/10 miles, turn right on plain dirt road, go 1 mile to fork of road, take left hand fork 4/10 mile, turn left on obscure road 3/10 mile to cemetery.
This cemetery is believed to be connected to the Bigham Turpentine Company owned by W.R. Bigham and was used as a burial ground for the Black citizens of Adamsville.
