Biography

Euphemia was born on 5 July 1852 in Portmoak Kinross-shire. She was the daughter of Robert Spittal and Anne Nicholson. [1]

In 1861 the family live in Main Street, Kinross. In the house are Robert (33) Smith (employing 1 man and 1 boy) born Arngask, Ann (31) born Earlsferry, Euphemia (8) born Abbotshall, Christina (5) born Kinross, James (3), born Kinross and Robert (1) born Kinross. Also living with them were two servants Robert Pollert a Smith Journeyman and Duncan Breingan a Smith's Apprentice. [2]

In 1871 Euphemia and her family live in High Street, Kinross. In the house are Ann (38) born Earlsferry, Euphemia (17), Mill Worker born Kirkcaldy, James (13), Mill Worker born Kinross and Robert (10), Mill Worker born Kinross, Mary Anne (6) born Kinross, John R (4) born Kinross, Thomas (3) born Kinross and Peter (2) born Kinross. On 31 December 1873 Euphemia married Morris Frederick Meyers (25) in Kinross. Morris was a French Polisher living in Kinross. His parents were Morris Henry Meyers, Cabinet Maker and Margaret Meyers m.s. Rutherford (deceased). Euphemia's parents are recorded as Robert Spittal, Blacksmith (deceased) and Anne Spittal m.s Nicholson. [4]

Son Morah Henry Meyer (1874-1930) was born in 1874 in Newington, Edinburgh. His mother's maiden name is confirmed as Spittal.[5]

Daughter Ann Meyer (1876-1969) was born on 15 March 1876 in Newington, Edinburgh, Scotland. [6]

Husband Morris passed away in 1877 in Canongate Edinburgh, His mother's maiden name is confirmed as Rutherford, [7]

On 26 November 1879 Euphemia married George Berwick (1859-1922) in Markinch. George (21) was a coalminer living at Gateside, Markinch. His parents are recorded as David Berwick and Lilias Berwick m.s. Angus. Euphemia (27) is a Domestic Servant ling at Kirkforth Feus, Markinch. Her father is Robert Spittal, Blacksmith (deceased) and her mother is Ann Spittal m.s.Nicholson, The witnesses were Robert Spittal and Mary Ann Spittal. [8]

In 1881 Euphemia and family live at at Feus, Markinch. In the house are George Berwick (21) Banksman born Freuchie, Fife, Euphemia (28) Factory Worker born Kirkcaldy, Fife, Henry Meyer (6) born Edinburgh, Ann Meyer (5) born Edinburgh and lodger Robert Spital (21) Miner born Kinross. [9]

In 1891 the family live at 3 Dowally Pl, Leven in the Parish of Scoonie. In the house are George(31) Coalminer born Falkland, Fife, Euphemia (38) Factory Worker born Abbotshall, Fife, Henry Meyer (16), Papermill Worker born Edinburgh [10]

Son Robert Spittal Berwick (1891-1945) was born 29 May 1891 at 3 Dowally Place, Leven. [11]

Twins Lillias Agnes Berwick (1894-1983) and David Berwick (1894-) were born on 3 April 1894 at 3 Dowally Place, Leven. [12][13]

In 1901 the family live at 32 Spittal Cottage, East High Street, Methil. In the house are George(41) Coalminer born Falkland, Fife, Euphemia (47) born Abbotshall, Kirkcaldy, Fife, Henry Meyer (27), Papermaker born Edinburgh, Robert (9) born Scoonie, David (6) born Scoonie and Lilias (6) born Scoonie. Husband George passed away in 1922 age 62. George Angus Berwick, retired Miner, Spittal Cottage, Innerleven died 9 February 1922 at Innerleven testate. Confirmation Supar 16 June to David Berwick, Drapery Salesman and John Berwick both of Taylor Street, Methil his brothers, Executors. Will dated 9 June 1908 recorded Cupar 16 June 1922. Value of Estate £48:14:-.[15]

She passed away in 1936 age 83 [16]

Confirmation Cupar 17 April, to David Berwick, Grocer, 6 Page Place, Methilhill, by Leven and Robert Berwick, Spittal Cottages aforesaid, her sons, Executors.
