He was marked as unable to read or write as seen in this image of the original census. Martin Chester Stacy is buried at Oakland Cemetery in Gaffney, Cherokee County, South Carolina.[4]
M.C. Stacy lived and died at his home near Broad River in Spartanburg District, South Carolina. He was a farmer, blacksmith and ferryman and "prominent in Church work" according to his obituary.
Chester was initially buried in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, but his grave was moved to Oakland Cemetery in downtown Gaffney a few years later to make room for a road that was cut straight through the cemetery.
