↑Obituary: Title: The Oberlin Tribune Italicized: Y. Citing: Data: Text: John Rainsden Stanfield was born on April 30, 1846 and departed this life on August 1, 1913 at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 1 day.
The greater part of his life has been spent in this locality. He resided near the center of Camden township at the time of his death.
He was united in marriage on September 30, 1869 to Sarah Reynolds, to which union was born the following children; Edwin, Cora, Bertie, Alla, Arthur, Bertha, Mina, Claude, Clayton, Orrie, Elnore, Earl and Claire. Bertie having preceded him in death some years.
Mr. Stanfield heard the call of his country in the time of the 60's and responded, enlisting in the Union Army on Jun 28, 1863. During the war he saw much active service, having been engagedin some of the fierce and important battles. In all he was engaged in thirteen battles as follows; The Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Anna, Topotomay, Bethesda Church, Petersburg, Welden Railroad, Peedles Farm, Hatcher's Run, White Oak Road, Five Forks, Appomatox Courthouse and Cold Harbor. His good service in the interest of maintaining such a vital life principle, the issue of a war, will always remain a monument to his memory.
The family and friends have the sympathy of the community and are commended to the tender solace of the Gospel. Rev. E. Graves of New London was expected to have charge of the service held at the home Monday afternoon, but was unable to come at the last moment and C.A. Hanna pastor of the Kipton Christian church officiated.
