Nathan Stone is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A110215.

Biography

Based on my analysis of his close family ties, the book Genealogy of the Stone Family Originating in Rhode Island, and other published histories of early Rhode Island, I believe Russell Stone and his father Nathan Stone are descendants of Hugh Stone. I am continuing to research the exact lineage.

The DAR lists wife Mercy Matterson. Children Mercy and Eli. [1]

Nathan's will lists his heirs: Russell Stone, Nathan Stone, Eunice Nichols, Lois Richards, Mercy Potter, Hannah Andrews, Uriah Stone, Eliab Stone, Eli Stone. [citation needed]

Nathan is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery, Shaftsbury, Bennington, Vermont, USA.

Primary Sources Battle of Bennington Vermont Militia In an old newspaper is an affidavit of Capt. Jonas Galusha of Bennington; wrote in 1807 or 1808. Says he marched his company to the battle ground, by order of Col. Moses Robinson. In the battle, a soldier came to Col. Nathan Stone of Shaftsbury, & said, I have no gun; what shall I do? Stone replied – Stand by me a few minutes & you shall have ne. Stone soon after drew up & fired at a Hessian, who fell - & Stone said Run and get the gun – which he did. This soldier was Job Leonard, who afterwards settled in Granville, N.Y., one of whose family, Deac. Henry Leonard is still living there.

Hugh Stone and Abigail Busecot genealogy of Rhode Island is a family not proven related to Hugh Stone of Andover, Mass., who was hung 1689 for

murder of his wife.; that Hugh Stone eulogy by Rev. Cotton Mather) has dna profile at familytreedna/Stone, google search, colorized chart, and Russell Stone 1778-1846 has his dna listed with that of Hugh Stone hung 1689. Birth record for Lt. Col. Nathan Stone is required. Author William Leete Stone, book John Stone one of the first settlers of Guilford, Conn., does explain the numerous Stone genealogies. Also, Russell Stone married first Salinda Ward, after she died, Russell married Mary Ann Pickell and had daughter Sarah Stone born 1838 who has a profile. Russell Stone's dna is a match to Hugh Stone who was hung 1689. Hugh Stone and wife Abigail Busecot are a different genealogy, their descendant owned land what is now a premier New York State Park named Wescott Beach State Park in Jefferson County, N.Y.

Interesting there were two Hugh Stones. Unfortunately without data for both, the Y-DNA chart doesn’t tell us much.

Please remove the link to Thomas and Patience, not proven:

No evidence for parents of Nathan Stone, also, no proof of birth for Nathan Stone 1750-1833, dna profile of. son Russell Stone (left will), does clarify ancestor relationship and is not of Hugh Stone genealogy of Rhode Island. Lt. Nathan Stone served in Revolution, removed to Vermont, time frame of Col. Ethan Allen and issues over land grants in Vermont, claimed by New York Colony and New Hampshire Colony. Resolved when Vermont became a State.

Tell me why you don’t think the DNA relationship supports Hugh Stone as an ancestor of Nathan and Russell. The family tree DNA doc you posted show Hugh and Russell as G-M201.
